Feel Rejuvenated at the Marrison Residence and Spa

A few days ago, we made an unexpected trip to Cambodia. Our goal was to travel slow, and so we opted to maximize our whole stay exploring Siem Reap instead of hopping the bus going to Phnom Penh and other neighboring countries after just one day. During our stay in Siem Reap, we spent two wonderful nights at the Marrison Residence and Spa. In this post I am going to share my experience with the establishment and its staff.

The Location

Marrison Residence and Spa is conveniently located around 20 minutes from the Angkor International Airport via Tuk Tuk. They offer roundtrip airport transfer for guests, so transportation to and from the hotel is not a problem. If you feel like going to the Pub Street or temples around town, they can also drop you off at no charge. You just have to think about your ride back to the hotel. We were lucky, though, because after hiring their Tuk Tuk driver, Shier, for the Small Tour at the Angkor Complex, he even waited for us when we dropped by the grocery store.

The Place

Since the residence is also a Spa House, the whole place is screaming for relief and serene ambiance. Immediately after arriving, they served us with a cold towel and hot ginger tea. Since there was no elevator in the boutique hotel, one of the staff helped us bring our luggage upstairs. The bedroom was big and spacious. There was more than enough space for everyone to move. The whole room was perfect for relaxation especially after a long day of a tour. They even have a balcony! Visiting the temples in Siem Reap is exciting but incredibly exhausting, so it is important to come home to a cozy and comfortable room. They might have forgotten about placing some basic toiletries in the bathroom when we checked in, though. Good thing that we have brought our own.

The Spa, Amenities and other Facilities

On the second night, while I was curing my headache, my sisters had the time of their lives at the Relax Room- one of the many rooms in the building where they do body massage. Until September, every room booked in the residence is inclusive of a one- time 60- minute body massage per guest. It was just the right time to experience the free massage because we were all sore and tired from all the running and walking around the temples. My masseuse, Ari, was excellent at her work that I even fell asleep during our session. She would constantly ask if I was hurt or feeling good. This package is worth the money. Aside from the massage service, the spa also has a hot and cold jacuzzi, steam, and sauna which are open from 7 AM to 11 PM. Coffee and tea are also available all day by the jacuzzi which makes it an even more perfect place to chill.

The Tour

Although we arrived at the hotel at past 10 PM, we were eager to do the Sunrise Tour at 430 AM the next day. So, we asked them to arrange us a tour with one of their drivers. It was impressive to know that Shier was there before our 430 AM call time even though he picked us up late the following night. Although he did not come with us inside the temple, we never had any problem at all looking for him every time we returned to the parking area. We did the Small Tour which only included five temples, but he was kind enough to stop over the other small ones along the way. When we decided to come home, we asked him to bring us to the convenience store and he patiently waited for us before bringing us back to the hotel.

The Food

The residence offers in- room dining, but breakfast is available every morning at the Skybar. Unfortunately, it is only open for breakfast until 10 AM, but the management is already planning to extend their offer for all-day dining and to expand the menu as well. Guests are served with complimentary hot bread with butter and strawberry jam while waiting for the main course. The strawberry jam was so delicious that I could not get enough of it. Choices for breakfast was a bit limited but what they offer taste good. I had the Chicken Khmer Fried Rice, and it was filling enough to last me until afternoon.

The Team

Coming from a country full of hospitable people, it was a huge plus for us that Cathy, the General Manager, is also a Filipina. She would welcome every guest with a warm smile across her face. And not just us, alright? She treats all her guests equally and makes time to have a little chat with everyone. She makes sure that we all feel at home. All the members of the staff are welcoming as well, especially Ryna. They all ensure that we got everything we need to have a comfortable stay. When my migraine attacked after the Small Tour, Cathy contacted a Filipino restaurant to deliver dinner for us. Such a sweet gesture. It felt like I was just at home with my family taking care of me.

Overall

Marrison Residence and Spa is relatively new even to the locals because it just opened January this year. But that is a huge factor for guests because it only means that everything about it is new. The place is clean and cozy. Situated in a convenient location, it is only a few minutes ride from the airport and tourist spots. There was some misunderstanding regarding the booking, but Cathy and the other staff were very prompt and professional in settling our concerns. We even had a free transportation to our next destination even if we were not leaving for the airport yet! That was awesome!
